For example, when people have strokes that affect the left hemisphere of their brain, they may have trouble speaking or something right after the stroke, but over time and with proper therapy, some of those people are able to retrain other speech-related parts of their brain by creating new connections between neurons. ¨Ò¦p¡A·í¤HÌ¦³¤¤·¼vÅT¨ì¥ª¥b¸£¡A¥LÌ¥i¯à¦³»¡¸Ü»Ùê¡A©ÎªÌ¼vÅT¨ì¥k¸£¡A¦ý¬O¡AÀHµÛ®É¶¡ªº±À²¾©M¾A·íªºªvÀø¡A¨ä¤¤ªº¤@¨Ç¤H³£¯à°÷³z¹L³Ð«Ø¯«¸g¤¸¤§¶¡ªº·s³s±µ«·s°V½m¥LÌ¤j¸£¨ä¥L»yµ¬ÛÃöªº³¡¤À¡C Building these connections, in combination with some recovery of the originally damaged part of the brain, can help these people speak again with at least some degree of fluency. «Ø¥ß³o¨Ç³s±µ¡Aµ²¦X¤@¨Ç¤j¸£ì¨Ó·lÃa¤w«ì´_ªº³¡¤À¡A¥i¥HÀ°§U³o¨Ç¤HÁ¿¸Ü®É¯à¦A¦³¦Ü¤Ö¬YºØµ{«×ªº¬yºZ©Ê¡C And the brain¡¦s ability to adapt and move functions to new parts is called neural plasticity, or synaptic plasticity. ¦Ó¤j¸£¾AÀ³¨Ã²¾°Ê·s³¡¤Àªº¥\¯àªº¯à¤OºÙ¬°¯«¸g¥i¶ì©Ê©Î¬ðIJ¥i¶ì©Ê¡C The neurons are plastic, or flexible enough, to learn new routes and connections, thus allowing undamaged parts of the brain to take over functions that the damaged parts previously performed. ¯«¸g¤¸¬O¶ì®Æ¡A©Î¨ã¦³¨¬°÷ªºÆF¬¡©Ê¡A¾Ç²ß·sªº¸ô½u¥B³s±µ¡A±q¦Ó¤¹³\¤j¸£¥¼·lÃaªº³¡¤À±µºÞ¥H«e°õ¦æªº¨ü·l³¡¦ìªº¥\¯à¡C Even with perfectly functioning hemispheres, you might still have trouble naming objects. §Y¨Ï¦³¥R¤Àµo´§¥\¯àªº¨â¥b²y¡A§A¥i¯à¤´µM¦³¬°ª«Åé©R¦Wªº§xÃø¡C This can happen if communication between the hemispheres is disrupted by severing the corpus callosum, which is a band of nerve fibers that connects your brain¡¦s two hemispheres. ³o¥i¯àµo¥Í¦b¦pªG¯âOÅé³Q¤ÁÂ_¨â¥b²y¤§¶¡ªº·¾³q´N·|¤¤Â_¡A¯âOÅé¬O¤@°ïªº¯«¸gÅÖºû¥Î¨Ó³sµ²¤j¸£ªº¨â¥b²y¡C This creates what¡¦s called a split-brain patient, because your brain is now split into two parts. ³o§Î¦¨¤F©Ò¿×ªº¸£µõ±wªÌ¡A¦]¬°§Aªº¸£³U²{¦b¤w³Q¤À¦¨¨â³¡¤À¡C People used to have to do this sometimes as a treatment for seizures, but in addition to helping with that problem, this surgery creates some pretty interesting side effects in terms of language. ¤HÌ´¿¸g§â³o¤@ÂI·í§@ªvÀøÅöíwªº¤èªk¡A¦ý°£¤FÀ°§U³o¤@Ó°ÝÃD¡A³oºØ¤â³N³y¦¨»y¨¥¬Y¨Ç¦³½ìªº°Æ§@¥Î¡C So assuming that language is centralized in the left hemisphere, this means that the right side of your brain can¡¦t connect to the language side. ©Ò¥H¡A°²³]»y¨¥¶°¤¤¦b¥ª¥b²y¡A³o·N¨ýµÛ§Aªº¤j¸£¥k°¼µLªk³sµ²¨ì»y¨¥¤è±¡C So anything that you perceive in the right side of your brain can¡¦t be named or dealt with in terms of language. ©Ò¥H¥ô¦ó§A¹îı¨ìªº¨Æ±¡µLªk³Q§Aªº¥k°¼¤j¸£©R¦W©Î¦³»y¨¥¤è±ªº³B²z¡C Now, you may have heard before that your brain has what¡¦s called a contralateral organization, meaning that information that you perceive in your left visual fied gets processed by the right side of your brain and vice-versa. ²{¦b¡A§A¤§«e¥i¯à¤wÅ¥¹L§Aªº¤j¸£¦³Ó¥s°µ¹ï°¼²Õ´ªºµ²ºc¡A·N«ä¬O§A¥ª¥bÃ䪺µøı°Ï©Ò¹îı¨ìªº°T®§·|¸g¥Ñ¤j¸£¥k°¼¨ú±o³B²z¡A¤Ï¤§¥çµM¡C So let¡¦s think about what that means for a split-brain patient. ©Ò¥H¡AÅý§ÚÌ¨Ó·Q·Q¤°»ò¬O¸£µõ±wªÌ¡C If your see an object on your left, and it gets sent to your right hemisphere, you won¡¦t be able to name it. °²¦p§A¬Ý¨ì¤@Óª«Åé¦b§A¥ªÃä¡A±µµÛ´N·|±N¼v¹³¶Ç¨ì¥k¥b²y¡A§A¤£¯à°÷¬°¥¦©R¦W¡C You¡¦d still be able to pick it up with your left hand, because again, your right hemisphere is controlling your left-side motor neurons, but you¡¦d have to kind of turn your head so that the object would be in your right visual field before the language part of your brain would have any access to it. §A¤´µM¥i¥H§â¥¦¾ß°_¨Ó¥Î§Aªº¥ª¤â¡A¦]¬°¡A§Aªº¥k¥b²y±±¨î§Aªº¥ª°¼¹B°Ê¯«¸g¤¸¡A¦ý§AnÂà°Ê§AªºÀY¡A³o¼Ëª«Åé±N·|¦b§Aªº¥k°¼µø³¥°Ï¦b¤j¸£»y¨¥°Ï¦³¥ô¦ó³sµ²¤§«e¡C Now, when I say the right visual field, that doesn¡¦t mean just your right eye. ²{¦b¡A·í§Ú»¡¥k°¼µø³¥¡A³o¨Ã¤£§¹¥þ·N¨ýµÛ§Aªº¥k²´¡C It means the right side of your body, which you can view with half of each eye. ·N«ä¬O§Aªº¥k°¼¨§A¨âÓ²´·ú³£¥i¥H¬Ý¡C So there you go. ³o¼Ë´N¥i¥H¤F¡C Lots of pretty cool implications for how our brain is organized and subdivided in terms of language. ¦³«Ü¦h«Ü»Åªº¼vÅT¼vÅTµÛ§ÚÌªº¤j¸£²Õ´©M²Ó¤À»y¨¥ªº³¡¤À¡C ½Ķ¦Ühttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBqShvm4QRA
